MEMO #0910-4

Tonight is our half-way point, and if you have not already done so; we will need your finalized roster information TONIGHT! It needs to have who your 5 regulars are and your subs, used or unused. The 5 regular players are the only players you can use in the last 3 weeks. Your subs can of course be used as need up until the last 3 weeks. Your are limited to 5 subs. Those of you who played last year voted on this issue and those who did not play, well that 's how we do it. Questions? Call or stop by.

Score sheets, let's not get behind on turning them in. Again if you are going to turn them in ad want to make sure I'm at the bar, call 452-1116, I will wait for you. If I'm no there and you did not call, you can try to slip it under the door but make sure you push it as far in as possible. DO NOT LEAVE ANY PART OF THE ENVELOPE SHOWING, remember its YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

Congratulations to Tim Warner, winner of this year's TFT Tournament, and Gerald Baxter and Todd Sterling, 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Also, thanks to all you who played, donated or helped out. Although there were not as many players as in years past, the bed of my pickup is full and that's what really counts.

MNPL Memo #0910-3

The following two items are not in "black and white" in our rules but apparently, there may be a need.

Double Hits: It is a foul if the cue ball is struck more than once on a shot by the cue tip. If it appears that the cue ball and object ball are so close that the double hit may occur "STOP!" and have a 3rd party watch the shot. This can be difficult call because the distance between the cue ball and the object ball is very short and the 3rd party must be able to judge whether the cue ball had time to move out of the contact with the cue tip prior to being impeded and then propelled again by the follow-through of the stroke. If it is judged by virtue of sound alone, the ball position and action and stroke used that there were two separate contacts of the cue ball by the cue tip on a stroke, the stroke is a foul and must be called.

Push Shots: The "Push" occurs when the contact is maintained for more than the momentary time commensurate with the stroked shot. With the cue and object ball frozen, shooting the shot from any angle other than at least 45 degrees above, or at least 45 degrees to the right, or 45 degrees to the left of the center from the straight line of the frozen balls, is a foul.

Again... "STOP!" and have a 3rd party watch.

Both are "Ball in Hand" fouls.

****

In both situations to call Krista or myself for ruling is impractical as we get 2 calls... your version and opponent's and sometimes 3rd version at envelope turn-in. These are "must see" situations to rule on (in my opinion) If you call a "double it or push" and there is a disagreement that can't be resolved ...RERACK!! The safest thing to do, if you feel either may occur, is to agree to a 3rd party to oversee the shot and abide by their ruling!

Recently it was brought to my attention (at score sheet turn in) there was a combination of both in the same shot. There would have been no fair way to make a call on this over the phone. No 3rd party was involved and both players agreed to re-rack.

****

Remember next week (Nov 16) starts Round 2 and you will be playing teams from the opposite Divisions. Please check and read your schedules carefully to make sure you understand where you are to play. It should be interesting! Thanks Todd (Hide-a-Way Sterling) for this input!

MNPL Memo #0910-2

At a suggestion (and a lot of help) from Todd Sterling there is a new schedule.

Todd inquired as to why they couldn't play any of the teams from the other Division.  Quite frankly I spent a lot of time working on what was already done and started to look into it but decided to give it a break and go with what I had. We have 3 bars with 2 teams and only 1 table. After dealing with this and bouncing back and forth between schedules my eyes had it. Anyway, a fresh pair of eyes and a possible solution to go along with a suggestion and the whole thing looked good. Good to go as a matter of fact.

So to break up the monotony a little, and give everyone an opportunity to play everyone else at least once, we've come up with a new schedule.

Round 1 will remain the same regardless of whether you are in the American or National Division. So if you don't get a new schedule by Monday (Sept 14) just play the scheduled match that is on your old schedule. ALL ROUND 1'S ARE GOOD TO GO.

Round 2 will be American vs National. In this round your team will play the teams in the other Division.

Round 3 you will be back to playing in your respective Division only.

For those of you who have already picked up your folders stop by the Loop tonight, or as soon as you can, and get the updated schedules. Those folders still awaiting pickup will have corrected schedules.

There were a few teams that dragged ass, worrying about a few better players that have returned to play on Monday night and the possibility of having to face them on the table. Those teams did not get in this year. I even had a call, after the cut-off date, as to whether or not it was too late to get a team in. There is a BYE in each Division but the cut off came and went so they did not get in.

This year will be interesting to say the least. Those of you that don't play quite as well as some may have your work cut out for you. But in the end you are going to learn something. An old adage says "Even a blind squirrel can find a nut".

Let's get out there and play your best and don't forget to have some fun.

Did you play in the 2008-2009 season of the Clark and Son Monday Night Pool League? If so and you have some good pictures from “The Party”? How about yourselves? What are you up to now that League is over? What are you doing for fun during the summer or where did you go on vacation? If you’d like to share them; contact Krista and see what she can do. Just make sure they are in good taste…we will review them and leave out certain ones that we feel may be a little inappropriate.

Also…2008-2009 Sponsors…Have anything going on? Let us know and we’we'll help get the word out. See what bands are at The Red Dog or Country Comfort. Players…you also…Mike and Theresa Wyant - DJ/Karaoke and Jeff Czeak with “Mr. Trick”. These are a few examples that we would like to see.

Do you want on our mailing list? Send us a line and we’ll include you.

Welcome to all you returning pool players, and you new ones!

As you know we are an "Open League" this year.

What's that mean?

No "A" and "B" Divisions based on abilities. There was not enough of, let's say "A" teams for the sake of discussion to create an "A" division. They would have been playing each other to the point of boredom. And all together there were too many teams to have one open division...we would have been playing into May, same if we went 4 rounds instead of 3.

The Rules are still the same as last year but, a minor change to the by-laws sub must play 5 matches (25 games) to be able to play in the Year End Tournament. At the end of that last season this was agreed upon by the majority vote. The reason: money added to the tournament, last year $695 was added to the tournaments.
As stated at our first meeting, because we are playing with "Open Divisions" this year you can use anyone as a sub, providing they are not on someone else's sub list, played or not if they are on another's team's list, you cannot use them!

Cut off for adding subs to your rosters is December 14th, or Week 14
